Smokey Mountains

So after leaving the fudge, air brush t-shirts and machete Capitol of the world aka Gatlinburg we headed back to Newfound Gap and started the trek down the Smokey Mountains. We had some of the best views yet. We saw why the Smokeys got their name. After hiking in almost a Oz like world with spruces, cypress and lots of green covered moss logs we tented up from the shelter where I ran into a fellow Mississippian from Ridgeland. His name is Jeb Dominic aka Dixie Grits.
The next morning we woke up in a fog cover world and quickly packed the tent with cold fingers and empty bellies so we could get warm. We shed our warm gear once we started moving and enjoyed the long downhill out of the park. Once we made the final descent out we ran into the "Summit Sweeties" who provided trail magic of cokes, snacks and fresh strawberries. YUMMY! We ended the day at a perfect secluded spot right by a creek. Great end to the Smokies!
